The staff team is guided by a committee chaired by Rev. Scott Rowland, Senior Chaplain of St Mark’s Anglican Community School, Hillarys. CRU is run by a dedicated Board.
Ed Surrey
Director of CRU West
Ed studied Psychology at Exeter University, UK, before training to be a maths teacher. He taught at Stowe School in Buckingham before training for ministry in Perth while serving at a church. After serving back in Exeter as a pastor in a church, Ed and his family returned to Perth to join CRU West in their work of sharing Jesus with the next generation.
Dougal Steven
Schools Ministry
Dougal worked in churches and schools in Perth for 25 years before joining CRU West. He has a passion and love for encouraging the next generation to enthusiastically pursue a relationship with God through developing an understanding of the Salvation Story of the Bible. Dougal and his wife Kelli have four children who have all been involved in CRU Camps.
Jen Rowland
Schools Ministry
Jen worked as a Coastal Engineer and a Maths teacher before joining CRU West. She loves opening the Bible with young people and seeing God at work in them. Jen and her husband Scott are thankful that their two girls were emboldened and equipped to serve Jesus through school lunchtime groups and holiday camps.
Luke Harris
Schools Ministry
Luke recently moved to Perth from Geraldton to join the CRU West team. He is thankful for the impact that CRU West had on him and his brothers as campers and can’t wait to use his endless energy to share the saving message of Jesus that radically changes lives just like his.
Jess Smith
Ministry Coordinator
Jess originally worked as an economist before doing a ministry apprenticeship with the Christian Union at UWA. With over 10 years experience in youth ministry, Jess loves working with young people and sharing the great news of God’s love for them. Jess is married to Aidan and mum to Riley.
Gary Hill
CRU Executive Director
Gary heads up the work of CRU nationally, and supports the WA team both in person and from behind the scenes. He’s been on the staff team for over 3 decades, from when there was just a handful of staff members, through to the 100+ staff members today. Gary and the whole team partner with CRU West by providing administrative support, along with their camping and schools ministry experience and resources.
